Partner Spotlight: The Fine Art Museums of San Francisco
This week’s Partner Highlight is on our wonderful partners at The Fine Art Museums of San Francisco.
FAMSF comprises the incredible de Young Museum in Golden Gate Park design by renowned architects Herzog DeMueron and the Legion of Honor in Lincoln Park, designed by Architect George Applegarth
High on the headlands above the Golden Gate—where the Pacific Ocean spills into San Francisco Bay—stands the California Palace of the Legion of Honor, the gift of Alma de Bretteville Spreckels to the city of San Francisco. Located in Lincoln Park, this unique art museum is one of the great treasures in a city that boasts many riches.
Legion of Honor Museum
Completed in 1924, the California Palace of the Legion of Honor was designed as a three-quarter-scaled adaption of the 18th-century Palais de la Légion d’Honneur in Paris, one of the distinguished 18th-century landmarks on the left bank of the Seine.
M.H. de Young Memorial Museum
The M.H. de Young Memorial Museum by renowned architects Herzog & de Meuron is a remarkable revival of a building that no longer exists. The building was completely destroyed in 1989 by the Loma Prieta earthquake.
The new design consists of a bold striking structure that is as much part of the exhibit as the art it contains. A visitor’s experience begins from outside of the museum with landscaped terraces, sculpture garden and a children’s garden. Herzog DeMeuron's choice of natural materials, such as copper, wood, stone, stone, and glass allows the design to become part of the land it occupies.

The building itself becomes a monument on the skyline, rising 144 feet with a tower that twists from the ground to the sky where it aligns with the grid formed by the streets of the nearby neighborhoods. At the top an obvservation floor provides views of the Bay area. The tower’s dramatic twist in its center is a bold statement both close up and from a distance, and is a distinguishable modern monument that honors the history it was designed to represent.
We feel deeply privileged for Arckit to be a part of FAMSF stores and are delighted that our All New 2021 Collection will soon be available in-store and online together with our current products.
